Corn is a favourite by many because of its versatility in dishes and its wonderful taste. Boiling corn is an easier and healthier way to cook corn compared to grilling, baking and popping. How to boil corn takes less than five steps:

How to boil corn

  1. Prepare the corn. Some people like boiling corn with the husk while others like them peeled.
  2. Fill a pot with enough water to cover all ears of corn.
  3. Allow the water to boil in high heat.
  4. Carefully put in the ears of corn into the boiling water.
  5. Drain the hot water and rinse the corn with colder water to halt the cooking process.
  6. Take out the corn after a few minutes. The corn is cooked in about 5 minutes but those who prefer softer corn kernels boil the corn for up to 10 minutes.

Additional Tips:

  • Adding sugar to the water sweetens the corn.
  • Overcooking the corn dries it out so 10 minutes is really the maximum amount of boiling time that is recommended.
  • Wait a few minutes before eating boiled corn because the core stores a lot of heat which can cause minor scalding.
  • Boiled corn can be seasoned with butter and salt, pepper or other condiments.
  • Some rub lime wedges on the corn then season it with salt.

Boiled corn is an excellent snack for picnics and other outdoor activities because it is easy to cook and pack. Boiled corn is also useful in baking corn-based breads and muffins and they taste yummy in soup dishes too.
