How to stay awake

Sleep is a very wonderful thing; children don’t want it but adults crave for is. But no matter how much people want to sleep, there are just some instances where dozing off is considered unethical. So whether you are a student, employee or anyone pulling in an all-nighter, you will need these tips on how to stay awake.


1.  Food to perk you up

  • Have a good old cup of java. Caffeine is known the world over for giving just the right boost of energy to keep you awake.
  • Snack on high protein food such as nuts and almonds instead of chips or starchy food. Starch makes you sleepy.
  • Drink lots of water to avoid getting fatigue and dehydration.

2. Wake up your senses

  • Listen to upbeat music. Music is proven to affect people’s moods so anything that can make you want to dance will surely wake you up.
  • Chew on gum or ice to stay alert.
  • Get some sun or expose yourself to plenty of light.
  • Get a sniff of peppermint oil, rosemary or eucalyptus.
  • Go for a walk or do something physically every 30 minutes.
  • Splash cold water on your face. The cold wakes up your senses instantly
  • Pull on your earlobes.
  • Rub and press the skin in between your fingers.
